Library Management

eCl@ss, CMAP Classification and Product Description to Lighten the Load of Managing Libraries in E3.series

Menu

Managing libraries is an industry wide requirement – it’s got to be done, and done right, or the design migraine kicks in. This is why, today I’m pointing the spotlight on this fundamental part of the design flow. Making library management easier and quicker, is why we created the Zuken Component Manufacturer Alliance Program, so that E3.series users can benefit from ready-made libraries. We’ve combined this with the eCl@ss Advanced reader to allow an even greater amount of suppliers to add their components with no effort, important for paving the way for future growth of the library components.

As a result, we’ve heard from existing users that they’ve been able to reduce the time to create a component by 60-80%.

eCl@ssWhat is eCl@ss?

It provides a unified and consistent classification of products, materials and services internationally (full description on the eCl@ss wiki here). We’ve been a supporting member for many years, having worked with other ECAD suppliers and component manufacturers to define the eCl@ss Advanced XML structure.

What is Zuken’s Component Manufacturer Alliance Program (CMAP)?

This is a world-wide library of component data from companies including ABB, B&R, Bosch-Rexroth, Deutsch, Conexcel, Finder, Harting, Igus, Klemsan, U.I.Lapp, Lumitas, Pfannenberg, Phoenix Contact, Pirelli, Schneider, Siemens, Wago and Weidmüller. Many of these companies supply the data in a standard format, and then using the eCl@ss Advanced reader, E3.series users can have these imported into their own library. No more hunting around and re-drawing etc.

Not all organizations have the same requirements, so we’ve compiled three levels of service:

  • Level 1
    • We create an E3.series library for you with the eCl@ss data provided by the manufacturer/s. This level is free-of-charge.
  • Level 2
    • We create an E3.series database with the eCl@ss data provided by the manufacturer and uses additional graphics and 3D models to refine symbols and models. An individual price quotation is required.
  • Level 3
    • The component manufacturer generates the E3.series library with the eCl@ss data and Zuken’s library converter. For this level Zuken provides a free-of-charge E3.series seminar and E3.series license.

The bonus of this kind of program, is that as it grows, the available data and reuse gets greater. You can find out more here
