From English Major to Digital Marketing

In true fashion to my generation, my undergraduate degree has little to do with the career I ended up in. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English focused on Creative Writing and a minor in Philosophy, Religion, and Popular Culture. As a lifelong bookworm, my plan in school had been to go into publishing and become an editor. After I graduated, I had a conversation with a senior editor from a Big 6 publishing house, and she sounded so bitter about books and publishing that I knew I didn’t want that to happen to me.

Already working for a small publishing startup based out of London called Nunabooks, I continued to gain experience but pivoted into a marketing and PR-based role. This transition allowed me to blend my love for storytelling with a new set of skills in promotion and audience engagement. About a year after I graduated, I landed a job in Charlotte, NC, at a digital marketing agency called Varda Partners, which cemented my career path into Digital Marketing. This role was pivotal in shaping my understanding of the digital landscape and honing my analytical skills.

My Role at Zuken USA

I am the Digital Marketing Manager for Zuken USA. Simply put, aside from Social Media, I manage all of Zuken’s digital marketing assets. This includes websites, emails, and any other digital promotion. A large portion of my role is based on research and analytics, determining what we can do to ensure we are providing the information that our customers and potential customers need from us. My job is to connect the dots between our digital presence and the needs of our audience, constantly refining our strategies to improve engagement and conversion.

Adapting to Changing Priorities

The priorities within my role change based on factors like the time of year, what events we have coming up, and what new products or releases are coming out. On any typical day, though, I am working on getting my deliverables out (email, press releases, etc.) and using various tools to help me monitor our website’s health and how we are doing in search engine rankings. This involves a mix of creative tasks and data-driven decision-making, ensuring our marketing efforts are both innovative and effective.

The Best Team Ever

By a large margin, this marketing team is the best team I have ever worked with. I have never experienced working on a collaborative, supportive, flexible, or fun team. I’ve never been made to feel like I need to be anything other than myself with this team, and I have always felt like my ideas and opinions are valued. I feel truly fortunate to be a part of the Zuken Marketing Team. The camaraderie and mutual respect within the team create an environment where creativity thrives and challenges are met with enthusiasm.

Life in Germany jvhook-paris-meet-out-people-zuken-usa-300x300

My husband and I lived in Germany from 2019 – 2022, which would have probably been more amazing if COVID hadn’t happened in the middle of it. It was still an amazing experience, and we are grateful that we could travel as much as we did. Living abroad enriched our lives with new cultures and perspectives, and despite the pandemic, we made the most of our time there by exploring as much as possible.

A Passion for Reading

Other than travel, I am a big bookworm. I average 75-100 books per year, and you can almost always catch me with a book, an e-reader, or listening to something on audio. My passion for reading extends beyond a hobby; it’s a way of life that continuously fuels my creativity and provides a constant source of inspiration.

Fur Children

We have two fur children: Kindred, a 4-year-old German Shepherd, and Albus, our 9-year-old orange cat. As any true Millennial these days, we are a tad over-attached to them and spend a lot of our weekends playing with Kindred in the yard, going on hikes, or lazing on the couch. They bring joy and companionship into our lives, and we cherish every moment spent with them.
