Cable and Wire Harness

Enhanced Device Tree Visibility

In the E3.series 2025 release, users can now view additional parts of a device in the Device tree. Accessory parts and their information can be displayed directly under the parent part with the new tree property settings. This enhancement lets designers quickly identify if accessory parts have been added to the device, ultimately improving design quality.

Expanded Capabilities for Exchanging Connectors

The latest update expands the ability to swap connector part numbers within a project. Users can now modify the part numbers of complete connectors already placed on the drawing and plugged into a mate, even if the new part numbers have more or fewer pins. This enhancement aims to improve user experience and streamline user efficiency.

Simplifying Part Definition Using Mating Connector Groups

In the E3.DatabaseEditor, a new component type called Mating Group, is now available. The Mating Group part type works similarly to the Cavity Part Group type, allowing librarians to define a group of similar mating connectors. Users can apply these defined groups to the Valid mating connector attribute. E3.series will list all components within this group as options under the Active mating connector drop-down. Mating Groups help users save time when defining mating connectors, especially when multiple options need to be applied.

Additional Cable Management with Core Direction Enhancements

There are several enhancements in the E3.series 2025 release regarding the “from-to” information applied to cable conductors. The first update automatically assigns the same device for the “from-to” information as the first connected conductor of that cable. Additionally, new commands are now available within the Connection table. The first command allows users to swap the connected pins of a conductor, while the second command unifies all of the connection directions of a cable’s conductors. These new features aim to simplify the tracking of connection information for reporting, design checks, and processing.

Boosted Precision in Wire Length Calculations

Accurate wire length calculations are crucial for providing precise measurements for quotes and manufacturing. When determining wire lengths, it’s essential to consider additional length requirements, such as insertion length, to prevent the wires from being too short. In the 2025 release, users will be able to define an attribute to incorporate this additional offset length for device pins. The overall physical length calculation will include these offset lengths. Furthermore, users will be able to view and edit the offset lengths in the Connection table.

Control Panel Design

New Alignment Features for Improved Panel Design Efficiency

Designers can align device models placed on panel sheets with their respective carrier objects. This alignment capability, previously available with devices on mounting rails, is now available for mounting plates. Additionally, new horizontal and vertical center alignment options allow for precise placement of elements relative to base objects such as doors, improving design organization in complex panels.

Increased Design Precision with Slot Naming and Tree Placement Features

With E3.series 2025, users can assign slot names and view them in tree views and properties dialogs. This feature allows users to give slots more descriptive names, making it easier to identify their position or purpose. Furthermore, designers can place and move objects in the panel via tree views to the desired slot, simplifying the placement or movement of elements and enhancing precision in complex designs. To further streamline mounting devices, users can use the filter for Slot Properties in the tree search to make designing panels with E3.series more user-friendly, especially when working with many slots or when several slots are close together.

Routing_Offset

Greater Design Accuracy with Pin Offset Customization

In the E3.series 2025 release, new options exist to define a pin offset for each pin in the panel model. These offsets help our designs more accurately reflect real-world scenarios where wires may need to route in specific ways from the pin to the cable duct, depending on the component shape and connection type. This improvement aims to calculate precise wire lengths more effectively.

Precise Modeling with Polygon Slot Areas

In E3.series 2025, users can create slot areas in the form of polygons. This flexibility allows users to define the mounting space of components to match the shape of the model, allowing designers to create higher-quality components and panel layout designs.

Collision Prevention with Automatic Panel Sheet Location

When defining panel sheets, users need to specify the sheet’s location within the panel world. In the 2025 release, this process will be automated for users when adding new panel sheets to the project. E3.series will identify the next available space in the panel grid and assign it to the location of the new sheet. This automation helps prevent overlapping sheets, which can cause part collisions in the 3D panel space.

Easy Model Creation with New Contour Definitions Options

The E3.series 2025 release allows users to create restricted areas and cutouts from existing polygon graphics. The restricted areas and cutouts are typically included when importing graphics from a drawing file or a STEP model. This new capability allows users to quickly define the graphics as contours in E3.series, saving time and reducing the effort of creating detailed panel models.

Quality and Productivity

Enrich Manufacturing Drawings with Angular Dimensions

A new angular dimensioning option was introduced in the 2025 release. Users can now add angular dimensions using the command from the Insert menu or the toolbar icon. This new option provides users with more flexibility when documenting their engineering drawings.

Parent-Root-Attribute-Text

New Display Options of Root and Parent Attribute Information

In the 2025 release, it’s possible to display a reference to the source attribute, which can be defined on a text node to show the attribute of a specific object related to the defined text type. The release introduces two new ‘Source’ definitions: ‘Parent’ and ‘Root.’ This allows information on the ‘previous component/device level’ or the ‘root component/device level’ to be shown. Parent or root information is available for devices such as assemblies, connectors with inserts, and terminal blocks.

Added Import and Export Features

The E3.series 2025 release introduces new import and export features. When importing DXF files, cutouts, drill holes, threaded holes, and the required space recognized as graphics with a defined color can now be transferred to E3.series. All types of contours imported by DXF files can be functionally displayed and used in E3.series, saving time during model definition.

3D panel sheet contents can be displayed as a 2D projection when exporting to PDF. Users can now include 2D and 3D representations in the same PDF export, providing greater flexibility for documentation and design reviews.

Furthermore, users can define a level configuration file in the settings. E3.series uses this file when printing and exporting PDF and SVG files, controlling the visibility of objects placed on certain levels. For example, information irrelevant to printed projects or that interferes with clarity is hidden by default, ensuring error-free documentation and saving time by applying correct levels seamlessly.

Enhanced Sheet Variant Attribute Management

E3.series now allows users to assign sheet texts to variants. The functionality for a variant attribute of a sheet is similar to the handling of variant attributes of devices. Users can define the variant attribute values tied to a specific variant. Librarians can use a sheet text type on the sheet symbol to display this variant attribute value. This enhancement improves documentation accuracy and customization for projects with multiple variants.

Improved Overwrite Control in the E3.CopyDatabaseEntries Application

A new feature has been added to the E3.CopyDatabaseEntries application. This feature enables the application to overwrite only the outdated components, models, and symbols in the target database. With this feature, users can now control the imported and overwritten elements based on whether they have an older date in the target database compared to the source database.
