Learn What's New in Harness Builder 2023

Harness Builder 2023 for E3.series brings a modern user interface and additional functionality to further aid in completing a wire harness design and manufacturing documentation. In the 2023 release, the focus was to simplify the use of the tool while continuing to add additional capabilities.

Adding features such as auto dimensioning, automatic watermark generation, and new context windows help optimize the workflow and increase productivity. Harness Builder 2023 for E3.series also includes reporting, analysis, and manufacturing export enhancements.

New User Interface

Harness Builder 2023 for E3.series now features a completely redesigned user interface that is more intuitive and user-friendly. The window tabs have been streamlined and organized into detailed sections such as reports, exports, analysis, and utility tools, making navigation much more effortless. Adding context windows for tools such as the additional parts editor, data sheet viewer, and view/edit strip lengths allows users to jump from connector to connector to apply these features seamlessly.

Additionally, the core settings are now consolidated under the main Harness Builder window, providing a shared space for all settings and making finding and maintaining consistent report data easier. The installation process now features a modular interface that enables customers to select their preferred manufacturing export options for the plug-in. As a result, end users can save time by easily accessing the specific lists of export machine options they need.

Automated Dimensioning Toolbar

Traditionally, a harness board will include dimensions for the harness segments. With the latest update, designers can efficiently populate segment dimensioning for an entire harness with just one click using the automated dimensioning toolbar, which comes as a standard feature. By configuring the dimension settings for the project, users can easily standardize the dimensioning process. Additionally, a verification tool is available to ensure that all segments have dimensioning. If any dimensions are missing, the message window will display warnings and highlight the corresponding branches. By leveraging automatic dimensioning, what previously was a long and tedious task is now accomplished in seconds.

Watermark

The feature of adding automatic watermarks to shareable harness drawings is now available for manufacturers. Users can define controls such as the required watermarks, placement, rotation, standard texts, and text properties. This feature generates a PDF copy of the active sheet, which includes the added watermark texts.

Splice Documentation

Harness Builder 2023 for E3.series introduces an improved method for adding documentation to splices. Users can now conveniently add on-sheet splice documentation for multiple splices using the new splice context menu options. By selecting multiple splices and running the command through the Harness Builder context menu, the tables will appear consecutively for easy insertion. Adding heat shrink to the splices is also found using the new context menu option.

This release introduces a new approach to defining harnesses. The user has the option to identify a wire harness based on various parameters such as attributes, drawing sheets, the complete project, or an entire assembly through structure nodes using the core Harness Builder settings. This approach simplifies the process of generating reports and exports by automatically applying the wire harness name and version for efficient release tracking.

Reporting and Analysis Improvements

Harness Builder 2023 for E3.series release improves the handling of twisted wire length calculations for detailed reports. This release now considers factors relating to the number of twists and material composition to ensure that length calculations are accurate to prevent short wires during wire cutting that can lead to rework and waste.

A new harness braiding cost and weight estimator is available. The tool provides a precise estimate of the cost and weight of material for the braiding machines. Automatically calculating the braiding requirements is essential when creating an accurate customer quotation.

New Automated Wire Processing Machines

In additional to the new modular design for wire processing machines, Harness Builder 2023 for E3.series expands the support for 3rd party automated wire processing machines. The cut/mark/strip machine exports have expanded to include nVent PW A6000.
